Why Do Kids Read on a Reading App?

Why Do Kids Read on a Reading App?

Mims House cooperates with two reading apps to provide access to our full catalog of books.

EPICBooka App

Why Do Kids Read on a Reading App? 3 Reasons!

1) Giving kids access to a reading app is like handing them a library. The apps contain books from multiple sources, so there's a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction, sports and jokes, nature and fairy tales.

2) Read-to-me books are a special type of ebook. The audio is combined with the text and when a word is spoken, the text is highlighted. This is excellent for kids who are just learning to read. They can follow along with the highlighted text and learn to associate the spoken word with the written word.

3) Fun! Today's kids are alpha kids, the second generation of digital natives. Their parents grew up with technology as a part of their daily lives. That extends even more for alpha kids who are sophisticated users of technology. When you hand them an app that is easy to use and has fun elements, they will read. A lot.

What Reading Apps are Recommended for Kids? Ages 3-8

EPIC! and Booka are both great apps, with a variety of books.

EPIC! is the oldest reading app and has made a point to focus on school libraries. They reach into many of the school libraries and provide free access to additional titles. It's easy to use and has gaming elements, such as badges to earn. One account can have five different profiles, perfect for classrooms and large families.

On the EPIC Reading App, our series, A LITTLE BIT OF DINOSAUR has been read 6.6 milliion times. They are Read-To-Me books, which means as a word is spoken, the word is highlighted in the text. Great to help kids learn to read.

The BOOKa app is even simpler than EPIC!, if that's possible. The display is clear and easy to understand. The books are shown seamlessly. The Read-to-Me books are great for the 5-8 year old kids.

Personally, I think you need both apps! Grandparents, this is a perfect Christmas gift!

And when they open the app, search for books written by Darcy Pattison!
